AFRICAI
The African Network for Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Imaging

We are delighted to set up the first African Network for Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Imaging (which we named AFRICAI) and we would be delighted if you join this initiative. The aim of this network is to connect all stakeholders, from Africa and beyond, with an interest in the field of artificial intelligence in medical and/or biological imaging, and to promote more research and real-world applications across the African continent. The network is open to all researchers, postdocs, students, AI developers, innovators, radiologists and other clinicians.

How we make a difference:

Promoting enhanced AI for medical imaging in Africa, by Africans for Africans.

Over the recent years, there has been excitement about the extraordinary oppor- tunities that artificial intelligence may offer in tomorrow’s healthcare. Given the potential of AI technology in facilitating the quantification of large and complex datasets, medical imaging has witnessed rapid and revolutionary developments. However, a limitation of current AI developments for medical imaging is that they have overwhelmingly, and almost entirely, targeted imaging applications in high- income settings. Hence, it is important to promote and accelerate the development of trustworthy and accessible AI solutions for medical imaging in low-to-middle income countries.

AFRICAI is a new African network dedicated to research, education and cooperation in the field of AI in imaging and radiology. With this network, we hope to raise awareness about these initiatives and attract more collaborators, promote new research and innovation in the field to address Africa specific healthcare challenges, and encourage similar initiatives for promoting practical AI solutions for developing countries in Africa and beyond.
