We are delighted to announce that the 27th MICCAI conference in 2024 will take place on the African continent for the first time, specifically in the marvelous city of Marrakesh, Morocco. MICCAI 2024: first time in Marrakesh! We are very excited about the prospect of this first edition of MICCAI in Africa and are very motivated to make it a great success with all your help. Our objectives are to widen the scientific, clinical and economic impacts of MICCAI across the globe, to attract and welcome new members of the MICCAI community in particular from Africa, and to bring our scientific focus to affordable healthcare and low-cost image computing, particularly for low- and middle-income countries.
Promoting research, innovation, diversity and inclusion

Motivation
MICCAI has historically and continuously promoted research and innovation, as well as international cooperation, diversity and inclusion. MICCAI has organised its conference in nearly all continents, including North and South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania, but not yet in Africa.

Objectives
MICCAI 2024 will bring MICCAI to Africa for the first time, to enhance African capacity building in the field of AI for biomedical imaging, by establishing new mentorships, collaborations & programs with/among African researchers, organisations and companies.

Location
In 2024, MICCAI will be hosted in Africa for the very first time and the event will be held in Marrakesh, Morocco. The city of Marrakesh is a UNESCO world heritage site that is famous for its palaces, gardens and markets, as well as for its exquisite cuisine (in particular couscous and tajine).

Hybrid Scheme
Following the ongoing pandemic, MICCAI 2024 will propose an attractive hybrid scheme (presential+online) that will highlight the benefits of in-person meetings (ca. 1500 participants) and maximise participation for those who may not be able, or will choose not, to travel (ca. 1000 participants).
